Our Philosophy: Literacy leads to CCMR
Literacy encompasses reading and writing skills, as well as mathematical literacy.
All are pivotal for college readiness.
TSI 2.0 measures literacy.
Proficiency in literacy enables students to comprehend simple and complex texts, engage critically with academic materials, and articulate their thoughts effectively, and is imperative for success in college-level coursework across various disciplines as well as in life. Similarly, mathematical literacy equips students with the analytical tools necessary to solve problems, interpret data, and think logically, all of which are fundamental for academic achievement and a game changer for postsecondary endeavors. Together, literacy and mathematical literacy form the cornerstone of college readiness, empowering students to navigate the future with confidence and competence.

In Texas, public school students who achieve the college-ready benchmarks (945 on TSI 2.0 English and 950 on TSI 2.0 Math, or through established scores on SAT or ACT) gain eligibility to enroll in most entry-level college courses, including those offered through dual credit programs for 9th to 12th graders. Moreover, students meeting both benchmarks on any combination of the three tests (e.g., TSI 2.0 English and SAT Math) not only earn the CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness) point for their school's accountability but also enable the district to receive supplementary funding if the student pursues full-time college enrollment or attains a Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification. This underscores the significance of preparing students adequately for post-secondary endeavors, reflecting the very purpose of public education: equipping students for diverse pathways beyond high school.
The notion that a Saturday Boot Camp or Online Drill Program alone can produce college-ready students is misguided. While acquainting students with test formats is valuable, this can be achieved within the regular school schedule, such as during advisory blocks or classroom sessions. Post-pandemic public education presents various challenges, including the diminishing use of textbooks as a primary curriculum resource. As publishing companies and schools increasingly rely on e-books, both teachers and students encounter difficulties in navigating these digital materials for effective teaching and learning. Regrettably, some educators opt to forgo textbooks altogether, exacerbating the struggles with TSI English proficiency and other academic areas.
